Rob Greig has been appointed Chief
Executive of the National Development Team. Rob will take
up his appointment on the 19th May 2008 in succession to Joan
Maughan as Joan is retiring from full time work with the National
Development Team but will become an Associate. Rob Greig is
currently the Governments National Director: Learning
Disabilities for England.
Jennifer Bernard, Chair of the NDT, said -
the Board and staff
of the NDT are delighted that Rob Greig is to join as Chief
Executive. His commitment to inclusion and whole life opportunities,
particularly people with a Learning Disability is profound
and has dominated his working life. The fit between his values
in practice and the purpose of the NDT is clear and strong.
We are looking forward to taking our inclusion work across
society even further forward under his leadership.
Rob Greig said -
I am really pleased to have been offered the opportunity
to lead the NDT into the next state of its development. The
NDT has a proud record of bringing innovative ideas to the
UK and helping public and independent sector organisations
work in partnership with disabled people to turn those ideas
into a reality. The big challenge for the future is to turn
good policy intentions into real change in peoples lives.
Whether that is for people with learning disabilities, mental
health problems, other disabilities or for older people. I
know that the NDT has an important role to play in addressing
those agendas.
The NDT began its work as part of the Department of
Health in 1976. It became an independent not for profit organisation
in 1992. Its early work centred on maximising outcomes for
people with a Learning Disability. More recently it has broadened
to Social Inclusion for all, particularly in Mental Health.
