Alison Short
Alison is a skilled person-centred planning facilitator, trainer and mentor who works with the National Development Team for Inclusion. She was the lead author of 'Families Leading Planning; a resource pack to enable families to take the lead in person centred planning with and for people with disabilities that they love' and has more recently published a chapter in a new Open University Press book called Person Centred Practice for Professionals.
Her work with young people through Helen Sanderson Associates has seen her providing leadership in the South East region in introducing and supporting the use of Person Centred Reviews for young people at the age of 14.
Her work with Helen Sanderson Associates has also included her being a lead in devising Support Planning and Planning Live methodology provided by this organisation. She has provided support planning training and consultancy to a wide range of groups and supports councils with their strategic development in this area. She contributed to developing peer mentorship in Support Planning as well as facilitating individual support plans.
Alison takes an active park in the international effort called the Learning Community for Person Centred Practices.
Additionally, Alison has the role of Person Centred Planning lead for Dorset County Council for people who have a learning disability.
She is responsible for the development of Person Centred Approaches and Planning across this county. In this role she is focusing on organisation development that will support sustainable change to enable and maximise the impact of the person centred planning effort.
Alison's knowledge of Individualised Funding and brokerage is also extensive. She has worked as a Support Broker, and for a short time she was national lead on Support Brokerage for the 'In Control' programme. Alison has, with Steve Dowson, delivered the NDTi's training for independent brokers, and helped to refine it into the unique package that it now represents
Alison started her professional career as an Occupational Therapist and has worked within the multi disciplinary teams for adults who have a learning disability and as a clinician and manager. She has also managed services such as Short Term Breaks and Day Services and along the way gained a Masters in Applied Psychology.
