Marc Mordey

Marc MordeyIn 1982, Marc started working in a hostel in Southampton, which provided accommodation for people who had become homeless. He worked for the Society of St James for a further 9 years, becoming the charity's Chief Officer in 1987, and developing knowledge and expertise around issues relating to substance misuse, mental illness and the implications and impact of poverty and inequality. Marc joined the NHS in 1992, and worked as a senior manager within mental health services, until, in 1994, he left to become Chief Officer of ROCC, a charity working in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. During the time at ROCC Marc focussed his energies on promoting partnership working between statutory and non- statutory agencies, and also was intensively involved with the initial implementation of Supporting People within the 2 areas, as well as developing work relating to the housing needs of ex-offenders.

In 2001, Marc set up as an independent freelance consultant and has worked on a self-employed basis ever since. During this time he has worked on a large number of working with diversity initiatives, including for various Probation services, Broadmoor Hospital and with medical staff of Gateshead Hospital. He has also continued to work in and around the area of supported housing, including reviews of sheltered housing for Notting Hill Housing Trust (2008/9), and the provision of Action Learning Sets for front line staff of Futures at Knightstone Housing (2008/9).

Over the last two or three years, Marc has developed a keener interest in issues relating to the environment and sustainable development and is currently working as Co-ordinator for The Environmental Network for Pembrokeshire. He is also increasingly interested in and involved with issues relating to older people in particular, and, in general, to enhancing and increasing people's involvement and empowerment as recipients of various services.`

Marc is a member of the Affiliate Pool of the Audit Commission, and is also an independent assessor for the Alliance in Herefordshire

Marc lives on small holding in West Wales, which is run as a conservation area, encouraging and sustaining wildlife and bio-diversity, and also where he and Helen run a working art and photography studio.
