Modernising day services lies at the heart of
government and local plans to offer people new and inclusive opportunities
within their own communities - through work, education, volunteering,
social and leisure activities, with opportunities to build new relationships
with other community members and to be seen and valued as committed
and contributing community participants.
If we are to achieve these aims we know that we need a fundamental
shift in the way that services are planned, delivered and reviewed.
A shift that involves both changes in the way we offer support to
individuals and plan and manage services.
While most service organisations are signed up to achieving this
change we know that many are finding the process difficult.
To support Local Authorities, Health Trusts, commissioners, providers
and people using services and their families and friends to achieve
this change the NDT has drawn together its experiences of day opportunities
organisational planning and development, person centred approaches
and training to offer a programme of support on Day Service Modernisation.

Individual Themes
Individual consultancy and training days are available for each of
the Key Themes. Please contact us for further details. |
|
TRAINING
The NDT has developed a variety of training opportunities directly
linked to day opportunities modernisation including: |
| |
Introduction
To Day Opportunities Modernisation days for front line staff and people
using day services
The day draws together best practice, real experiences, discussions
and problem solving to introduce people to and help them think about
the opportunities and challenges of modernising day services. |
| |
Modernisation
for Managers
A day to think about the challenges and opportunities for day service
leaders focusing on the thinking and services changes necessary to
introduce and support the modernisation process.
This day can be adapted for partnership Boards and Modernisation Sub
Groups. |
| |
Community Building
a day for staff
The day introduces staff teams to the concept and tools of community
building. During the day participants are invited to think about what
activities support people to really become part of their communities
and how community relationships can be fostered and maintained. |
| |
Community Building
developing plans with individuals
The three day programme (2 days plus a follow up day) works with a
group of focus people (and their chosen supporters) to think about
their dreams for community participation and relationships and then
to develop individual action plans to achieve this.
It is expected that staff participating in the days, as individual
supporters, will then be able to use the thinking and tolls in their
work with other people using services. |

|
EVALUATION
AND REVIEW
Ongoing evaluation and review is essential to any successful modernisation.
Evaluations and reviews of services and plans are designed to meet
local requirements and may look at the whole or parts of services.
Please contact us to discuss your particular requirements. |
