Commissioning and provision of local employment
supports for people with learning disabilities

,

IS IT WORKING? provides a ‘health check’ on the commissioning and provision of local employment supports for people with learning disabilities. Its aim is to help both commissioners and providers to respond to the challenge of increasing the quality and quantity of employment opportunities at a time when -

the demand from people with learning disabilities for support to access employment is increasing
national government policy is to encourage and support more people to enter into employment
many Local Authorities/Councils are investing increasing resources in employment supports
most Local Authorities/Councils are far from meeting the demand for employment and job support.
many people who want jobs remain in day service programmes, college placements, or at home.
